|
|
Moved here from ET#1 forum by author.
When replaying jaymod demos made by myself or others, they show graphics, skins and audio from ETC clan. The one with green-faced axis grinches in Stata Claus hats, with friendlys wearing angel wings.
I've scanned through the various CFG and DAT files and found nothing. I wonder if this is either a PK3 precedence situation, or some kind of hacky little 'take-overs' in some of the PK3s.
I've thought of removing all PK3 files and letting BBA auto-download them again, or downloading form the files page here or reinstalling ET.
I have many PK3 files with non-descriptive names, such as 1Jay.pk3, 44.pk3, and so on.
Note that if I /disconnect from BBA1/2, the options screen then features ETC choices and graphics.
Avoiding such (searching for word) is the reason I gravitated to BBA and it became my favorite server. |

You should be able to fix this by just loading the jaymod mod.
Try it and let us know.
From ET main menu>>mods>>jaymod>>load mod.
That should do it. _________________ Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction. - J.F.K. |

You have the pk3's from their server still. When playing a demo, there's no pure issues (like there is with a server), so all pk3's will load. You have to find the ones that are causing issues and delete them.
For the jaymod folder for our servers there's:
bbawatermark.pk3
ctf_soundpack1.pk3
jaymod-2.0.5.pk3
zz_load.pk3
zz_menu-bba.pk3
zz_mines.pk3 |

I used that same technique, from -999-'s post on 3/17/07...AND reading the last line of his post, I just realized that I posted my query in the wrong forum, and I have removed the link to it that was here. Sorry.

I made sure that I had the bba-jaymod files in the Jaymod folder, but there are still others' pk3s.
I thought I had solved the sound problem by moving a suspect pk3 to a Jaymod subfolder, but the sounds are back. Wonder if jaymod can search for missing pks?
I am familiar with the order-of-precedence concept from Quake2 files, where files were loaded alphabetically, with later-loaded files overriding the earlier loads.
Yeah, I did watch that long, long list of pks loading, They weren't in any alphabetic order, and file-date-order does not makes sense.
I wonder if they load in the 'natural DOS order', that is: last filed is last loaded. FIFO order.
I can think of two methods to test this:
1. Remove all non-BBA pk3s from etmain and jaymod and replace them directly from the BBA files page, and/or let the server auto-download them. I would move them to another partition. I hate to throw things away.
2. Remove one at a time. I would get a printout of the natural DOS directory listing and work down the list. This is the more tedious but more interesting method. I would use Geek_Geoff's method and load small dm_84 files. I would also watch the pak-load-order and see if it matched the DOS order.
This has actually bugged me for a long time, but wasn't too irritating until trying demo-making methods.
Thanks for the help, and I will report back. |

| It would be best to remove all the ones not needed and just store them somewhere else if need be, for one because they have no benefit where they are, and second, because of et's pk3 count bug. Also make sure to check your etmain folder for extra pk3s, as those will load also even though you're loading jaymod. |

I found that my Jaymod folder has 131 PK3 files using 300 MB, while the ETmain folder has 283 using 1,680 MB.
This doesn't include the files in the two beta Jaymod folders.
I think your plan above is the wisest move.
It is fun to remove a few files at a time and see how the demos end up. I've now got Flintsone voices and friendlies have superman shield icons above their heads. Except for one player. I've now got a screenshot of CuppaOJ with a Marilyn Monroe-like icon above his head. Hers is a head-and-chest shot. I think she's winking. |

Dead WRONG. The pk3s read/load in reverse alphabetic order.

How old fashioned can you get? DOS console under XP pro lists alphabetic by default. You can simulate natural order with dir /t:w >> writeorder.txt, but useless.
I took 999's advice above and removed all non-BBA pk3s, but used the list on http://www.buffalobadass.com/server-files.html, not from 999's list.
I ended up with pumpkin-heads. I removed RayBan's pumpkin pk3s and ended up with hockey-mask faces.
I'm on the right track, but I think I will follow 999's list below and then go to work on etmain's pk3s.

I just removed all files but those 999 recommends and the demo-replaying is now normal.
Thanks much. |

Oh Yes, some of weapons still have strange orange glints. At least the demos are watchable now, without the racaouss;lkfj audio.
Thanks, all. |

Um........raybans_pumpkin_head_glow.pk3
z_norkn.pk3 are the cleavers, anything with z zz etc is an add on from a server. If you delete one of those that is still needed, you will redownload it from the server when joining. _________________
